It’s been more than three years since the polyphagous shot hole borer (PSHB) beetle was found to have infested
the 100-year-old London plane trees in the KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden in Pietermaritzburg. This was the
first time the tiny beetle – native to South East Asia – was detected in South Africa, but it has since been recorded in
all provinces except Limpopo.
